Open Call

Imposter is craving vulnerability. Not a clear path or a perfect land, or anything like that. We are just interested in what you think might be possible, and the steps you would take—the steps where you and others try to be kind, and often fail, and try again, often in a whole new way. Hold the question of why conflict arises close to the heart, as well as how to move through it, and how it can become personally and relationally generative.

Belief is a risk, and it’s safer to continue to say no to the world. Though it isn’t. Life is not possible without support. To continue to say no would break you, and you would rather find some friends to help you pick up the pieces of yourself that have already been shattered and scattered all over the world. But even that feels silly, because all you are is a continued narrative, and you replace yourself with every choice you make—what possibility!

So who are you when you’re kind, brave, worthy of change, and willing to show us that this, ALL of this, is possible? We’re particularly interested in stories, poems, and non-scholastic essays that center communication, honest dialogue, evolving belief structures, and lack of certainty. Somebody cool once said everything cool requires you to trust others a little further than you’re comfortable doing. Which is to say preachiness will be rejected in favor of a million little ways.

General Guidelines

We are trans and love trans content. We do not care about your transition.

You don’t have to be trans to submit but if you’re cis you do have to be able to hang.

Careful about putting she/they in your bio. Maybe just don’t put parenthetical pronouns in your bio at all.

Submit up to 10 pages of poetry in doc.x or .pdf format, or 4000 words of fiction (doublespaced, 12 point font) in .docx format to imposter-review@proton.me

Simultaneous subs are cool, just let us know yadi-ya-yada. Reprints are maybe cool, just let us also know when and where in your email.
